Stu Stevens was not known as “The Voice” for no reason. From Nottingham Stu worked his way up through the clubs to land record contracts with EMI, MCA, Young Blood and many other labels. His breakthrough hit was the song “The Man From Outer Space” helped by the late great BBC Radio 2 DJ Terry Wogan who played the song often on his breakfast show, taking the mickey out of it, but all the time promoting a song which would go on to become his signature tune and gave him his deal with MCA. His live performances were legendary and he built up a host of awards. Songs like “Hello Pretty Lady” and “The Old Rugged Cross” brought him thousands of fans and he kept them more than happy with sell-out appearances with orchestras and his own band which included his two sons Stuart Jr and Steven.
He went through personal tragedy with his youngest son Steven dying of a heart condition at a very early age, and he also lost his wife Daphne far too early. The personal tragedies took its toll on him and he retired back to his beloved farm with his new wife Elizabeth. He was one year away from his 80th birthday when he died after a brave battle against illness, but his music lives on and in this collection of songs you really do have the ultimate collection of hits and favourites.
